"The Girl Who Becomes America's Next Top Model" is the ninth and final episode of cycle 1 of America's Next Top Model. It first aired on July 8, 2003, and garnered 4.50 million viewers.[1]
Episode[]
The winner survives the final cut and is awarded a modeling and management contract.[2]
The episode opens with Adrianne and Elyse being glad that Robin is gone, and Elyse believes Shannon will loosen up more now that she's gone. The next morning, Tyra visits the final three and tells them they will be walking in New York fashion week. The girls get ready and go meet with fashion show producer Drew Lineham. While he's talking to them, he notices Elyse dozing off, which offended him.
Back at the loft, Adrianne and Elyse take positive note of Shannon opening up to them. Later, the three go shopping. When they get home, there is a Tyra-Mail.
Tyra Mail: You have a fashion show casting tonight at 8:00pm. Have your hair and makeup done, be dressed and be heeled by 7:30pm.
Tyra visits again and teaches the girls how to perform the stomp walk. She thought Elyse was perfect for high fashion, but questions her passion. Shannon was all-American, so she needs to be more edgy. Adrianne has passion, but is still rough around the edges. Tyra loves that she doesn't know who will win.
The girls later meet with judge Kimora at her Baby Phat studio. Miss J is helping her judge the walks. They both note all of their progress. There is another Tyra-Mail back at the loft.
Elyse about who deserves to win
Tyra Mail: Two of you will continue on to become America's Next Top Model, one of you will be eliminated.
Judging[]
The guest judge is Drew. Tyra asks the girls to pose for the camera, and the judges ask their own questions.
- Drew asks Elyse what she learned in the competition. She answers being confident and accept criticism. Tyra notes that she said that supermodels are successful only because of genetics, which Tyra disagreed with. Elyse still stands by that statement, and thinks that beauty is scientific.
- Janice asks Adrianne why she wants to be a model. She says she loves being the center of attention. Kimora asks if she's ready to walk in a fashion show, which she answers yes. Beau requests her to not smile too big.
- Drew asks her to name three photographer who shot with Vogue. She can't name any, and forgets the one she worked with. She also doesn't know her measurements
At deliberation, Elyse presented like a know-it-all. She's the most high fashion, but Tyra thinks the winner should be more versatile. Adrianne was a transformation, but Drew has his doubts about her. Tyra thinks Shannon is the most TV ready, but her lack of fashion knowledge is a hindrance.

After elimination, Adrianne and Shannon go to a salon and get their hair touched up. Later, they get a personal Tyra-Mail handwritten.

Tyra Mail: Tonight we will be having dinner at Blue Inn. Please be ready at 7:00pm. - Tyra
The two meet with Tyra and the Jays at dinner to help them ease their nerves. The group reflects on the contestants - Shannon thought Tessa was gorgeous, Adrianne hated living with Katie, because she thought Adrianne was ghetto. Everyone thought Nicole would be in the final, Shannon was reminded of Ebony's moisturizer, and Miss J was told by her that she didn't understand her essence. Adrianne thought Giselle was annoying, but was also really cool, she was devastated that Kesse left, and thought Robin was the fakest girl in the house. The five danced and had fun.
Final Runway[]
The next day, the two go to the fitting of the Baby Phat fashion show. Later that night, they get their hair and makeup ready backstage. Shannon is first to walk, and she felt the adrenaline. Adrianne is second, and she didn't notice the audience.
Final Judging[]
This time, there is no guest judge. Tyra starts by selecting the girls best pictures they took throughout the competition. Shannon's highlights are her snake shot, her Reebok photo, her rooftop swimwear photo, and her lingerie photo. Adrianne's highlights are also her snake shot, her rooftop swimwear, her Reebok, her lingerie, and her nude shot.
Tyra gives them some final words before deliberation. Shannon says she wasn't perfect, but she's ready to learn and get better. Adrianne thinks this was one of the best experiences of her life, and she's proud to be so womanly. At deliberation, Janice was blown away by Shannon's runway, and they all thought she was better than Adrianne. Tyra is surprised because she thought Janice would pick Adrianne. Beau liked Adrianne's runway because it was very herself. Kimora thinks her look is better than Shannon's. Shannon would do better at talk shows and spokesmodeling, but Adrianne is more interesting.
