Fatima Ali Siad (born December 17, 1986) is a Somali-Ethiopian fashion model.[1] Raised in Boston, Massachusetts, she was a contestant on cycle 10 of ANTM in 2008, where she was the second runner-up. She also competed on the spin-off series Modelville, where she placed third again.

Early Life[]

Fatima was born in Mogadishu, Somalia to a Somali mother and an Ethiopian father.[1] She grew up in Somalia with her mother and two sisters. Her parents divorced at a young age. She underwent female genital cutting when she was seven years old. Her two sisters were killed by the Somali army during the civil war. After her sisters’ deaths, She and her mother fled to the United States when she was thirteen for safety.[2] Fatima states that she lived in a shack and had low self-esteem when she was younger.

She was a Posse Scholar and went to Bryn Mawr College in 2004.[3] She transferred over to New York University to study pre-med and political science.[2] She eventually transferred back to Bryn Mawr College to finish her education.[4]

ANTM[]

Fatima came into the competition with a powerful story to tell and a chance to inspire others. She received three first call-outs and four bottom-two appearances, the same amount as winner Whitney. She won one challenge, in which she received 50 extra frames.

She was given long, chestnut brown extensions as part of her makeover. Despite her strong look and potential, Fatima was criticized for not being able to take direction well. She was put in the bottom two for this in episode four, but saved over Amis.

In episode nine, Fatima was infamous for missing the photoshoot before overseas, because she had travel documents that she allegedly lost in Atlanta, and tried to get new ones while the other six girls shot a group photo. That episodes judging also happened directly after the shoot, and she landed in the bottom two along with Stacy Ann, but a stronger, improving portfolio saved her.

In one interview, Fatima stated that she felt that the show was a joke and thought Claire, Lauren, Katarzyna or Anya should have won or at least not have been eliminated as early as they were. She also stated that the show may be based on politics.[5]

Fatima was later a "Top Model In Action" bumper for cycle 12 and cycle 13.[6][7]
